Cambridge Road and Bridge Extension

from Holcombe to N. McGregor

Scientech is the Prime consultant on this project for City of Houston, in Texas Medical Center. Project consists of extending the Cambridge street from an exiting T intersection, north of Holcombe, between two adjoining existing buildings, construct a 3 span concrete bridge over Brays Bayou and connecting it at north side to N. McGregor. The roadway will consist of a new 4 lane concrete pavement with a median for left turns. This new road will provide for another much needed north-south artery in Texas Medical Center.

Extensive hydrology study and report was needed to accommodate the existing conditions and future widening of Brays Bayou (Federal project 211f) and to mitigate any rise. The roadways has complicated horizontal and vertical curves to accommodate the adjacent buildings and to have bridge sufficiently above the crossing channel for less mitigation.

All of roadway at north side falls into Herman park for which Scientech had to do extensive mitigation work according to Chapter 26 code and present the results to City of Houston Council. Bikeways connections will be constructed under each side of bridge, and connect with loops to the bridge above. TCP, SWPPP, water line, other utilities, two (2) new signal design, ADA, sidewalks, landscape, public hearings, and meetings, relocation of HLP transmition lines and poles, were among many other tasks. Construction cost of $10.2 million.
