Texas A&M University West Campus Parking Garage

Scientech Engineers, Inc. was the Structural Engineer of Record for a new parking garage and pedestrian passageway plaza connecting the East & West Campus of The Texas A&M University.  The new parking garage has approximately 1.2 million sq ft. in seven levels for 3,800 cars at a cost of $41 million.  The structural system was cast-in-place concrete post-tensioned slabs and beams/girders.

Since an important function of the facility is to serve both the daily needs of the campus as well as those of special events occurring at Kyle Field football stadium and Reed Arena, the garage was designed to accommodate the surge-type demands that exists at the conclusion of major events.

The 1,030-foot long pedestrian passageway accommodates up to 24,000 pedestrians in a 30-minute period following special events and has gently sloping floors and curving planter walls in brick and concrete. This passageway passes beneath a five-lane, major thoroughfare and two main tracks of a railroad and provides a safe and convenient route with both day and night for students travelling from one campus to another.
